Fail

...thinking "It'll be fine, everything coloured in this load is colourfast, I'll throw in these white tops as well," only works if you have actually tested everything in the load previously.

I now have two pink tops going through the wash again with a hefty slug of bleach and a lot of hope.

Edit: The bleach, it does nothing. Damn.

36hr roundup

  • Jul. 1st, 2009 at 6:01 PM
Just a quickie, largely because the whole thing was consistently awesome.
  • Scored first character death of the weekend in a remarkably short space of time due to one of those random sets of coincidences that just happen from time to time. Result: Chan spent some time poking Harlequin's soul, Starke went wibble after his item of Heal Life 4 refused to work on Harlequin for...the third time?, and Tarrack had the confusion that usually results from direct conversation with Balance.
  • Harlequin is already disturbingly effective against the undead. Upping her Turns is going to make her scary.
  • The fight back to the stockade on Friday night was brill, although the drowpire was curiously mockable. I think it was the hair, I could not take it seriously OOC...
  • I still can't believe it took two pairs of broken legs plus a game of Swing the Raven before I thought to use Power Sight on the first challenge ("It's a leap of faith!"). Damned literal priests.
  • One on one fights vs constructs with our own stats proved one disturbing thing - given the right circumstances, all of the squishies were more lethal than the heavies. Raph took himself out in about ten seconds, Harlequin and Chan tooks themselves out in under thirty, and Onyx beat himself to death with a staff he couldn't use.
  • Anarchy managed to get the Raven to authorise her Weaknessing Onyxbalm. It's probably a good thing I decided the Fear would be going a bit far, but it was tempting...
  • In a moment of evil genius and after I nearly managed to destroy my own character by going down the wrong route in the bargaining with the fae, the fae Lord gave Harlequin's body to its orginal owner for the rest of the evening/night (although still with Harlequin's stats). This lead to much, much breakage, especially with Starke's god intervening to give the two of them some alone time. There will probably be angst about it in the long run. Ivan ordered Starke to take the now-to-dawn watch on finding out what was going on, and there was much rejoicing.
  • Sunday fight was ridiculously long and punctuated by the Raven turning into a sheep at regular intervals. Harlequin ended up stealing the Death Knight's mace and has now attuned to it. Bwahaha.
  • Rhegor goes super-saiyin in thunder-cloud form.

Aftershocks

  • Jun. 30th, 2009 at 12:35 PM
OOC note: yes, this isn't locked, and yes it's rambly, but more people should have to suffer Harlequin's thought processes than me.

Warrior part 10

  • Jun. 22nd, 2009 at 10:32 AM
*Thaddeus sidles out onto the stage, clearly having been pushed.*

It's been a while, hasn't it? The author wishes to apologise for the delay in working on our- Why am I apologising on her behalf again?

*Fion appears around the edge of curtain and stares at him uncompromisingly. Thaddeus throws his hands up in disgust.*

Oh, very well. The author is busy, tired and suffering from creativity drain, but hopes you can forgive the delay of over a year. Are we done now? Good, in which case go read the damn thing.

*Exeunt omnes.*

How can commentators say that and not expect the rugby widows not to fall over laughing? Really?

Signs

  • Jun. 3rd, 2009 at 9:37 PM
I don't generally believe in signs; however, sometimes one has to listen to the world when it's trying to tell you something.

Like when you finally get yourself in the mood to sew, with a plan that will allow you to get everything done in time, and not only does your sewing machine die approximately three minutes after starting but you find that you've lost all the spare parts and maintenance equipment that you need to fix it.

I hate my life some days, I really do...

Edit: Ferretting in boxes turned up the missing maintenance kit, and taking the sewing machine apart and cleaning and oiling everything seems to have fixed the problem again.

Another evening lost; something tells me I'm not going to get this done...

Avenue Q part 2

  • May. 30th, 2009 at 8:45 PM
Right, looks like (all being well) I will be aiming to see the show on the 17:00 performance on August 15th. It will be £39, or £25 if we manage a group of 8. I will book the tickets a week on Monday. If you want to come for certain, comment on this entry.

Dead Books and DVDs

  • May. 29th, 2009 at 12:29 PM
We're clearing out the no longer wanteds from the house, so here's the list of books and DVDs needing a new home. Priority is on a first come and collect, first served basis.

Books )

DVDs )

Edit: Due to a mix-up in what books were meant to go where, list will be changing. Any writing books claimed will most likely be taken off the list; apologies to all concerned.

Edit 2: Fixed list.

Strange mental image of the day

  • May. 15th, 2009 at 4:36 PM
What if Harlequin's personalities were all teenagers and went clubbing together?

  • Life - alternating between strutting his shirtless stuff in the centre of the dancefloor and being dragged off for long make-out sessions (and more) in dark corners.
  • Freedom - looking disturbingly like Cyndi Lauper (think denim, badges, bright colours and dyed hair) but with the added fun of lots of different recreational pharmaceuticals tucked away in her jacket.
  • Chaos - Candy raver with glow sticks.
  • Anarchy - Leather, silk, studs and spikes and chains and lots of skin, dancing languidly at the side of the floor and just waiting for interesting prey to come along.
  • Death - The quiet, prim, slightly uptight Goth in the corner, sitting alone at a table with a single drink for company.
  • Might - propping up the bar and glaring at people who bump into him.
  • Order - skinny, bespectacled and sitting at the one table with any decent light reading and ignoring the rest of the world.
  • Justice - thin, nervous, preppy and clutching at his (non-alcoholic) drink as though it were a shield.
  • Balance - the DJ.

I may add other roleplay characters to the image at some point, but the thought as it stands amused me.

LARP Social Awareness Day thing.

  • May. 11th, 2009 at 6:27 PM
This is a social meme, designed to increase the awareness that, with regards to LARP, in character does not equal out of character. Particularly with romance.

Please note the following:
I am not my characters. This is role play.
If you have met me while IC at a LARP, you have not met me, but my characters. This is role play.
If my character has declared their love for your character, I have not declared my love for you. This is role play.
If my character has slept with your character, I have not, nor am I going to, sleep with you, nor do you get any say over who I do sleep with. This is role play.
If you develop feelings for the person you meet while at a LARP event, you have not developed feelings for me, for you have not met me, but rather, you have them for my character. This is not role play, but it is also not my problem.

I bear no responsibility for your feelings, in much the same way as you bear no responsibility for mine. If one of us develops feelings, it is their responsibility to remove themselves from the situation before it effects their OOC lives and emotions.

If you disregard any of the above, you have no entitlement to keep playing with me, and no recourse to complaint when I sever all possible IC ties, as is my right when you have demonstrated a lack of in character to out of character divide.

If you support this, repost, in an attempt to stop IC/OOC misunderstandings at LARP.

Addendum: If you catch me blurring the IC/OOC divide, smack me over the head with something heavy until I stop.

Writer's Return

  • May. 10th, 2009 at 8:23 PM
For those who were following the story when it originally kicked off over a year ago - I've started working on the next chapter of Warrior again. I admit it's going to be slow going as I'm too knackered to write more often than not, but we'll see.

I am Scout, hear me...not at all.

  • May. 5th, 2009 at 7:09 PM
CP Badlands event.

Two suicide missions and the entire squad came back alive both times.

A cheer from the dead player crew for attempting to shiv up a High Demon with only a single dagger (and for the matter only a single arm).

Being part of the founder crew for the Nameless, the new crack Teutonian scouting, foraging and other interesting activities group.

From complete unknown to deputy head scout for the Teutonian faction in the space of four days.

Abso-bloody-lutely fecking brilliant.

I have so many plans I want to put into action now, and it's all dependant on me getting personal transport sorted out so that the Nameless can have their own tent...containing library, report desk, map collection, 'interesting items' collection and other vital kit...

Oh, and I'm going to be on the Eldritch website modelling a new style of chest armour once I get the photos done. Win.

Weekend to Come

  • Apr. 29th, 2009 at 8:56 PM
Currently having complete and utter lack of event froth for the weekend coming. Think I need to sleep more.

Things to do in town tomorrow, for my boss has scheduled a meeting at a really awkward time on Friday:

- Replace camping cutlery yet again (I swear [info]dantarian eats it).
- Buy enough chemical handwarmer jobbies that no matter how cold it is I will sleep toasty warm and thus not kill everyone on site starting with myself by Monday.
- Acquire enough concentrated sugar and quick-release carbs for much the same purpose.

Trouser making is a no, I need an extra pair of hands and eyes to get any farther.

Annoyingly, Rosalind's accent has overwritten Kadija's in my brain.

Edit: It's summer, and thus chemical handwarmer jobbies do not exist. Damn.

I've won an award at work for working my arse off. £80 of recognition. Not too shabby at all.

Edit: The bastards presented it to me at the departmental meeting while projecting the one photo they have of me on the wall.

This would be the Red Nose Day photo.

Blarghle.

Backstory

  • Apr. 19th, 2009 at 4:22 PM
Harlequin's backstory is now as good as finished, edits notwithstanding.

Into the Woods...

  • Apr. 6th, 2009 at 5:31 PM
So, the beginning of a potentially Epic plotarc has been rolled out. My legs hate me.

Xan's roundup. )

Ah well, the players now have enough information to be able to get them to three different possible next games, depending on what they want to do (and if they work out what they have).

Oh, and cost of game based solely on single-use props: about £3. Win.

Dear Aunt...

  • Apr. 6th, 2009 at 1:58 PM
I saw from [info]drabbit and had to bite.

Ask any character I've written/played for advice, and they will provide it, advice columnist style. Your problems or fictional characters' problems both welcome. Management is not responsible for the results of following said advice (especially if provided by supervillains or Tony Stark).

This currently includes:
Kadija (thievin' gyppo)
Harlequin (unbalanced Balance priest)
Keriat (teenage elven punk pyromancer)
Rosalind (possibly sociopathic ranger)
*click* (sentient cloud of nanobots)
Adrienne (widowed merchant by day, vicious assassin by night)
Thaddeus (cat-walker)
Sadie (librarian extraordinaire)

And various others not currently used but available for poking on request.
The collective updates, ramblings, musings and creative attempts of the Harlequin Angel.

Also the collective updates of her TL characters, who almost talk more than she does...
